Firegirl will have to fight more than the flames
The city is in off-peak hours. Buildings burn, flames destroy everything they catch and people see their lives in danger. An unsustainable situation which is aggravated by the lack of means available to the firefighters. Fortunately, despite the precarious situation, there’s Firegirl to troubleshoot. This heroine by her own merits won the hearts of citizens through her hard work and perseverance. Although behind the fires hides a much greater danger… Do you want to find out for yourself?
all against the fire
From the hand of Dejima and Thunderous publication come to us Firegirl Hack’n Splash DX, a “vitamin” version of the game released a year ago but with new level designs, graphic improvements and a console release. As in the original delivery, we will have to continue conduct raids in search of trapped persons through buildings while running away from flames and enemies that will slow down our mission.
Come to the hot school
We could consider this playable proposal in the genre rogue lite. By completing missions and more missions we will get money with which to improve the fire station or buy better equipment for our work. The fire station will start in a very precarious situation, but thanks to the volunteers who join our cause, the notoriety we generate and the success of the missions, little by little we will improve both the facilities and our own protagonist.
Thunderful Publishing has published notorious games such as The Gunk. If you don’t know it yet, you can’t miss it our analysis.
This series of missions will have a very clear objective: to rescue the civilians trapped in the flames. In order to achieve our goals, we’ll only have an ax to break down doors and our spear to put out fires or propel us through the air thanks to the pressure released by the water jet. Simple to understand but very entertaining mechanics, which are conditioned by the time we have to complete the mission.
Don’t leave the kittens behind!
I admit I’m not a big fan of rogue-lites, but Firegirl hooked me. First, because the missions are short and in the purest arcade style. When we kill several enemies, we get extra seconds that are added to the timer. Call me nostalgic, but it reminds me “extended period” it was in driving games in arcades. Even when we get extra water on stage or save the civilians, a little arcade-like music plays.
Second, and especially if possible, there is always a palpable progression. Still. Whether the mission goes well or badly, we will get a lot of money to continue improving the attributes of the station or our beloved firefighter. Whether it’s with a new truck driver who gives us an extra second on the mission, a social delegate who will fight for our rights and improve our services, a doctor…
It all adds up to keep the game biting us and keep us playing to unlock new qualities. Special mention for the woman who animates our social networks. Thanks to their work, we will achieve fame that will lead our subscribers to donate more money. So it will be time to save the animals and do things right to keep our audience happy.
something lurks in the dark
It’s not all about putting out the fires and coming home with more money in your pocket. behind all the action A story unfolds beyond the flames and which revolve around a fire demon. This Creature Killed Our Dad When He Was A Firefighter, And It Seems It’s All Connected To 13 tomes of fire we need to find for the truth to come out.
Who plays with fire…
A fluid progression system, simple and entertaining mechanics… everything seems to work perfectly, even if Firegirl Hack’n Splash DX also has its flaws. To start, although each phase is developed procedurally, their locations are too repetitive. Don’t be surprised if you spend the first hour going in and out of the same type of building. Then it expands a little more with levels inside a forest, a shopping center or a train, but the beginnings are a bit “hard” and repetitive.
Visually it is a delight. We will have a very well designed pixel-art, full of animations both in our heroine and in the enemies that appear on the screen. In addition, sometimes it will change the plane of the camera, “tilting” it and achieving a very spectacular effect. And although we said that the scenarios are procedurally generated, each of them has its own logic, without dead zones with inconsistencies or anything like that. And beware, it won’t always be procedural…there will be narrative moments that are best discovered on your own.
Conclusion of Firegirl Hack’n Splash DX
Never putting out a fire has been so pleasant. And the flames may not be the only reason Dejima and Thunderful Publishing’s work is engaging. Behind the ax and the pipe of our protagonist there is a very sympathetic rogue-lite system that will make us progress in a natural and simple way.
Its short, arcade-style missions also invite the classic “last one and I’m off” that we’ve all done at some point. But we will not leave it because we will always have an objective in mind, a quality to implement in the installations or an improvement in our skills as firefighters. This without forgetting the volumes of fire which flesh out the story and allow us to see what is behind the flames which devastate the city. Ready to save your citizens?
