Battlefield 2042 suffered from major problems when the game was released. Countless bugs and missing content have led to a rapid drop in player numbers. There are few recent games that have been so poorly received by the original fans of the series. Okay, except for Diablo Immortal. Dice also learned a lesson from this and turned the entire studio upside down.
Some executives have left, including then General Manager Oskar Gabrielson. Rebecka Coutaz has been in the executive chair for almost half a year. The Swede is not new to the industry: she was employed at Ubisoft Annecy for ten years, working on games like Riders Republic and Steep. She also has multiplayer experience, having helped develop the multiplayer modes of Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell.

What makes her different?
Im Interview with gameindustry she explains that she now defines simple processes and work processes more clearly and that she is rebuilding the motivation of her colleagues. »Our players and community were disappointed, but so was our development team. We focused on the health of the game and with every patch we improved it. And every patch was a small, small victory.«
Letting the game die is out of the question for them. You couldn’t do that to the players or to yourself. Rather, you owe it to the players, according to Coutaz.
Even if the player numbers are now crushingly low, it was one of the most played games on Steam in the beginning. One wonders how much negative reviews and the like harm a game at all. We have dealt with this phenomenon in the following article:

Only Battlefield?
When asked whether other, unusual projects like Mirror’s Edge are now being put on the back burner, she responds: »Totally. We’re just focusing on Battlefield 2042. There’s no time for anything else and that’s what we’re doing. In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that Dice deserves to be.«
And Dice isn’t the only studio working on Battlefield. EA Gothenburg, Ripple Effect and Criterion also worked on 2042. The latter are currently working on the new Need for Speed, but the others are apparently still busy with Battlefield 2042. According to insiders, it was said recently that the game had hardly any developers, but EA has already denied that.
What will happen at Battlefield 2042? Coutaz says their primary goal is to improve core gameplay. Season 1 has also been released and according to Coutaz it has received positive feedback from players. You can read our opinion on the first season here:
