Mercenary Chests are a key part of Warzone Season 4 and the June 2022 Mercencaries of Fortune event.
Chests are a staple of Warzone at this point, and there are a handful of them to find, giving you bonus loot – provided you can find one. golden key card first, of course.
Warzone being Warzone, remember you can always take loot from other players instead…

How to Open a Mercenary Chest in Warzone
Opening a Mercencary Vault in Warzone simple process:
- Find a golden keycard
- Use the keycard to open the safe
It’s much simpler than chests previously in Warzone, like last year’s Nakatomi Plaza vault.
Since the Golden Keycard is the, well, key to it all, how do you find one?
How to Get a Golden Keycard in Warzone
Vault keycards are obtained in two ways: by opening loot boxes or by defeating a player who has already acquired a keycard and looting their body.
Note – Gold Keycards only appear on Caldera, not the new Fortune’s Keep map.
This is similar to how keycards were found when chests were first introduced to Warzone in 2020 – essentially requiring you to explore, open loot boxes, or win skirmishes for other players and hope they drop a keycard of their person.
Once you have a Golden Keycard, then it’s time to head to one of the many Mercenary Vaults.
Warzone Mercenary Vault Locations
Once you have a Golden Keycard, it’s time to find a safe.
Mercenary Chests can be found on Caldera, not the new Fortune’s Keep map.
Unlike Vaults before, the search process is much simpler. First, on the map, look for the orange scribbled circles at the top – you’ll find them through a handful of points of interest.
Then inside those you should look for the Transit icon. These indicate the location of the safe. Note – these icons will only show when the match starts properly.
You will find a trapdoor in these places.
Go down the ladder and look inside to find a locked door (in the few we tried they were to the left of where you enter) that requires access via a Golden Keycard.

Inside you’ll find a bunch of bonus loot. As with Vaults before, it’s possible that the Vault has already been opened by another player – so be on your guard if this is the case!
Note that if you’re specifically after completing the Mercenaries of Fortune event, you need to open three total Mercenary Vaults (over as many matches as needed) to unlock the associated reward – the Fanged Assault Emblem.
