With E3 missing again this year, Summer Game Fest struggled to impress. His house show fell far short of players’ expectations, and his fragmented schedule still doesn’t please. But the audience was there this year and made the event a success. More than 3.5 million concurrent viewers gathered on June 9, according to Summer Game Fest organizer Geoff Keighley.
On Twitter, the star video game host smiles. Indeed, his show achieved its best performance since its inception, setting new records. And if the Summer Game Fest evening has more than 3.5 million viewers, the event has attracted more than 27 million viewers in total. A figure of 8% more than 2021 according to published data.
At the same time, Twitter conversations surrounding Summer Game Fest have doubled this year compared to 2021. Even the #TheGameAwards, Geoff Keighley’s other event, had wind in its sails with 69% more usage over the period. Of course, the two events are quite different, but the general public seems to lump them together around their star host. A host who has already confirmed that success was more than enough to return in 2023 with a new formula. Next year Summer Game Fest will actually feature a physical event in addition to its traditional digital show!
