According to Spotify, it is currently working on a new feature that will integrate the activities of your Facebook friends into the mobile app. The feature is called Community
and shows what your friends are currently streaming on Spotify and what changes they’ve made to their playlists.
Spotify community is currently not available for all users. It was first discovered by product designer Chris Messina, who discovered it in a seemingly endless way long twitter thread shared about changes to the Spotify app. There he also shows what the feature looks like on his smartphone:
Spotify confirms the feature but doesn’t reveal more
The colleagues from Tech Crunch then asked Spotify what the feature was all about. The company then confirmed that they are working on the feature. However, it is still in an early testing phase. Further details were not divulged.
According to Tech Crunch, you can access the feature if you have an iPhone or iPad. Here you open the Safari browser and type spotify:community
in the address bar. This should take you to the Community tab. However, Android users will have to wait for the official release. Meanwhile, if you want to delve deeper into your own music tastes, you can do so with the Spotify Pie:
Spotify Pie
This is how you reveal your true taste in music
The feature can do that at the moment
In the community feature, you can currently see a horizontal bar at the top that you can scroll left and right. In this you can see all the updates that your friends have made in their playlists and how long ago that was.
Below that, you’ll see a vertical list of your friends and what they’re currently listening to. Three moving bars show that the person is listening to music. Otherwise, the app shows when which song was last heard. The feature will probably soon also show which audio book your friends are currently playing, because the music streaming service wants to invest heavily in this category:
Spotify is drastically expanding its range – but not with music
What do you think of the mobile app becoming more of a social network? Want to see what your friends are listening to or just not interested? Your opinion is in demand.
