We are living a very good moment for the blue hedgehog thanks to the success of his second movie and expectations towards your next games and series. However, not all is happiness in Green Hills. The recent launch of Sonic Origins, a compilation of the first games in the series, had several negative reviews due to its ‘bugs’. One of the title’s developers says this is Sega’s fault.
Simon Thomley, better known online as Stealth, is part of the Headcannon studio who worked on the remastered versions of Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles y —junto a Christian Whitehead— Sonic 1 y 2 for Origins. He also worked with the same team on the celebrated Sonic Mania a few years ago.
Through a series of messages posted in a Twitter thread, what can you read hereThomley expressed his frustration with the state his game was released in. According to him, Sonic Origins is full of ‘bugs’ that were not the fault of him or his team. Says they were caused by Sega creating the build.
Although he accepts that Headcannon may have made mistakes in the development of these versions of the games, but not to the level of those seen in the final product. He adds that they asked Sega for permission to make changes to the game, but were denied. They were also given ‘feedback’ which appears to have been ignored.
The reception of Sonic Origins with criticism has been mostly positive. Count with one 78 en OpenCritic y 79 in Metacritic. But a considerable number of players say that the games “do not behave” like the classics, have strange sound ‘glitches’ and others that even allow boss fights to be skipped.
Simon Thomley’s message adds to the negative criticism against Sega for Sonic Origins. These are due to the content that they separated in DLC and for removing older versions of the titles included in the compilation from stores.
