Actor Chris Pratt is trying to reassure Mario fans that he’s in an upcoming voiceover super mario bros Movies can’t be bad.

In an interview, the “Jurassic World” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” cast told Variety that Mario has updated his voice for the film and is “different from anything you’ve heard in Mario World before.”

“I worked closely with the directors, tried a few things, and ended up with something I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear,” Platt said. “It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not going to run around in a plumber suit. I’m going to voice an animated character.”

Super Mario Bros. co-producer Chris Meledandri seems to be very pleased with Pratt’s performance in the film, recently telling TooFab that Pratt’s voice for the film was “very good.”

“I can’t wait for people to hear it,” Meledandri said.

Announced in 2018, the film was originally scheduled to open in theaters in December 2022, but was pushed back to April 2023. No reason for the delay was provided.

Along with Pratt, the film will star Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Tactics, The Witch) as Princess Peach, Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny) as Luigi, and Jack Black (the list goes on) as Bowie. Ze, Key & Peele as Toad and Seth Rogen (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Neighbors) as Donkey Kong.

The filmmakers also cast Fred Armisen (SNL, Portlandia) as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson (to name a few) as Kamek, and comedian Sebastian Maniscalco (Green Book, The Irishman) as Spike.

As yet unnamed, the film is being handled by Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind Minions, Despicable Me and other animated blockbusters. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto is co-producer with Meledandri.

Teen Titan Go’s Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing the film, with Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Lego Movie 2) writing the screenplay, and it’s co-financed by Universal and Nintendo.
