Using the Apple Watch can save the life of its users!
With its health-centric and emergency functions, a user rarely leaves his Apple Watch. Not even when it’s underwater. Due to the reliance on the device, a swimmer was able to survive after being trapped in a lake.
The fact shared by 9to5mac, indicates that a woman went to the emergency function of the Apple Watchtrapped between the rocks of a lake in Dalles, Oregon.
SOS Apple Watch
In the midst of the situation, the woman activated the Apple Watch’s SOS feature to call emergency services, accessed by pressing and holding the side button for a few seconds.
The speed of the emergency team was essential in resolving the situationsince there have been several unsuccessful attempts. First responders arrived on the scene, attempting to provide the distraught swimmer with a ladder while clearing rocks that were pinning the swimmer’s foot. The rescue attempt failed. According to the police report:
“Officer Reams assessed the scene and determined that rescue of the swimmer should be immediate, and that he could only assist in the rescue by entering the water to sense what would happen if he was trapped, for the water was too murky and moving rapidly to permit any visible inspection from above.
After the evaluation, the officer in charge dove into the water and was able to free the woman’s stuck foot This did not allow her to move on her own.
The report also indicates that the woman contacted emergency services after being underwater for approximately 30 minutes, and was rescued with signs of hypothermia. After his health was not compromised.
Although several Apple devices have a high water resistance rating, the Apple Watch is the only one that can be worn comfortably for sports, including swimming. And with which you can access the function SOS and call. However, this requires an Apple Watch that supports cellular data and an active plan to work without the user’s iPhone nearby.
