There’s been a bit of back-and-forth about rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro might have an always-on display. Let’s remember it was last year when we took for granted that this technology would reach to the iPhone 13, but that, in the end, it was not the case. This time it seems so, let it be the definitive one.
Information without compromising the battery
Just like this time last year, Mark Gurman says the iPhone 14 Pro will have an always-on display. A screen with LTPO technology which, by lowering the brightness and reducing the refresh rate to one hertz, that is to say once per second, will be able to always display information without generating additional load for our battery.
The novelty is attractive, without a doubt, and it arouses interest since we thought that it would reach the iPhone 13. It was practically at the last moment that Apple decided, seeing the performance, software disable this feature on current iPhones. Something we hope won’t happen again this time. An occasion, everything is said, in which the Cupertino company will put a lot of emphasis on batteries and their consumption.
In the Apple Watch Series 8 we hope to see a new low power mode that will arrive thanks to watchOS 9. A mode that allows us to use the basic watch, even when it is activated. At the same time, it must be said that an iPhone and an Apple Watch are quite different, since the former can spend hours in a pocket where the permanent screen loses its meaning.
Hopefully Apple will design this feature around proximity sensors, allowing it to turn off the screen completely under certain circumstances to further squeeze the battery of our iPhone.
