Despite multiple delays Digimon survive is getting closer and closer to release this summer. Now we finally have a better look at what the gameplay will entail, aside from pitting the powerful digital monsters against each other in battle. A new trailer from developers Hyde and Bandai Namco Entertainment America showcased a combination of visual novel storytelling and tactical combat.
In the parts of the game that use visual novel elements, you can explore scenes and talk to other characters. According to the trailer, what you say matters and can affect “Karma, Affinity, and Digi Evolutions.” Players can even converse with potential enemies and turn them into allies, à al Persona or Shin Megami Tensei. In combat, players then employ turn-based tactics as they arrange their digital monsters on a grid-like battlefield.
The trailer runs exactly one and a half minutes, but this excerpt was a long time coming. The game was first announced in 2018 to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary and has been delayed multiple times since then. The current plan for the game’s release date is July 29th – the same day as Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Oops!
