Castlevania is not the only video game IP that makes the leap to animation on Netflix. With a Diablo IV on the way, and also with an Overwatch 2 more and more poking his leg on the horizon of video games, Blizzard has decided to make the jump of the controls to the TV ahead of the arrival of Diablo and Overwatch animation series. The former producer of the Skylanders Academy animation series and current Activision Blizzard co-chairman Nick van Dyk has confirmed it through his LinkedIn profile. In it, you can see how his role appears as «Executive producer of Diablo, a television adaptation of the IP from Blizzard Entertainment, prepared at anime style«, which ensures that it is in pre-production phase and that it will be distributed worldwide through Netflix. He also says something similar with Overwatch, of which he claims to have developed and sold the series.
Both IPs would be preparing for bring to the world new adaptations in the form of television series. With Diablo the style is made clear, although with Overwatch nothing is mentioned about the technology or the aesthetics to follow. Seeing how the studio has been developing the whole history of this universe through animated shorts that have constantly enamored fans, one would expect the style followed to be through CGI, like these same shorts.
When will these series be fully confirmed? Everything indicates that Activision Blizzard would be preparing them to reinforce the premiere of their respective videogames once they have a clear release date. Neither Diablo IV nor Overwatch 2 have taken a place in the release schedule, although the latter does seem to be already feeling some dates much closer than one might imagine. The company has to give news soon, and it may be with series under the arm.
Call of Duty Cinematic Universe?
Another detail that attracts the attention of profile of the co-chair of Activision Blizzard, is the «Development strategy of Call of Duty film and television universe«.
