Access to Modern Warfare 2 open beta, estimated release date explained

The Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta is on the way, giving players a taste of this year’s Call of Duty shooter and maps.

While there hasn’t been a full reveal for Modern Warfare 2 yet, Activision has confirmed that an open beta is imminent, and there are even details on how to get a code via pre-order, or as a potential drop to watch some streams leading up to launch.

Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta Release Date Estimate

Currently, there’s been no official word on when Modern Warfare 2’s open beta will drop, but given that there’s been practically a new Call of Duty game every year since the dawn of time, we we can make a pretty good guess as to when it’s going to happen.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will launch on October 28, 2022, slightly earlier than previous years. Traditionally, open betas for Call of Duty titles come around six weeks before launch, so expect to play the Modern Warfare 2 open beta in September.

Additionally, although the open beta is available to everyone – hence the name – there will be an early access period for some players.

The only potential leak we need to get rid of right now is from notorious Call of Duty leaker Ralph Valve. They’ve already been right about the timings of new Call of Duty seasons and betas, and according to a report from WhatIfGaming, the Modern Warfare 2 open beta could arrive on September 15.

Obviously, this hasn’t been confirmed by Activision – but hopefully the company will announce beta release times as soon as possible. There is such an event where we might hear some news very soon…

How to Get Early Access to the Modern Warfare 2 Beta

There are two main ways to get early access to the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta:

If you pre-order, once the beta is live, you will receive instructions on how to play via email. If you pre-ordered through PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store or Battle.net, you are automatically qualified to participate in the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta Early Access.

As for the Call of Duty League Championship Weekend stream on Sunday, August 7, by watching and linking your Activision account to YouTube, you’ll have a chance to win a code for the Modern Warfare 2 open beta.

What will be included in the Modern Warfare 2 beta?

At this time, Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to reveal any information on what to expect from the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta. The official site describes the following:

“This preview build of the game will give you an advanced look at the game’s multiplayer, including maps, modes, weapons, and other features.”

In the past, Call Of Duty open betas included a handful of maps, a mode or two, and a selection of weapon loadouts for you to try.
