In the daily program for August 5th, we start with Xbox Game Pass, which reveals a new offer for families. We then proceed to the possible takeover of Ubisoft by a Chinese giant before ending with the first punch for the multiversus game. The Daily, let’s go!
Ubisoft could well be bought by a Chinese giant
Internet giant Tencent is a true superpower in Asia. The company is already the majority shareholder of Riot Games and a 40% shareholder of Epic Games. And she apparently wants to add Ubisoft to her list, according to information from the Reuters site. Tencent is already a 5% shareholder and wants to become the majority shareholder of the French group to strengthen its position internationally. The Chinese giant is quite determined and would have made an offer to buy the 15% of the Guillemot family. Ubisoft has not yet officially commented on this rumor.
A new Xbox Game Pass subscription offer
Game Pass is particularly popular with Xbox and PC gamers thanks to its regularly updated catalogue. It’s currently available in two offerings: a “classic” Game Pass and a slightly more complete Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox just announced a third subscription formula: Family Game Pass, which allows five players to share the same Ultimate account. And all this for the pretty low price of $21.99 per month. This new offering is currently being tested in Ireland and Colombia. If the results are good, Xbox could add a good number of new subscribers.
First strike for Multiversus
The new fighting game Multiversus, a Super Smash Bros. starring the Warner Universe roster, is the big game of the moment. It’s been available in open beta since July 26th, and excited players who’ve been able to try it: it even recently peaked at more than 144,000 simultaneous connections. Multiversus also stands out from Super Smash Bros. thanks to its ranking system. A slight shadow to this impressive picture, however, is that the start of the competitive mode has been postponed. Season 1 and the arrival of Morty were originally scheduled for August 9th, and we don’t yet know when the new features will arrive…
