There could be more than one new Apple Watch on the horizon for 2022. In addition to the Apple Watch Series 8, Apple is expected to release an even bigger and much more durable new model to appeal to sports fans.
Mark Gurman, of Bloombergpublished in December 2021 that Apple may launch an Apple Watch with a “rugged case”, which may appeal to users who participate in events and extreme sports.
This watch would presumably have a more scratch and shock resistant exterior to better compete with rugged watches from Casio and Luminox.
Next, we review all the rumors regarding this new category of Apple Watch. It is also said that there will be a new Apple Watch SE, which we talked about in another article.
What name will the new Apple Watch “Pro” get?
There are possible names that Apple could choose for this new category of Apple Watch. It is believed that Apple will stop using the name “Edition” (which also does not correspond to the type of watch that is rumored).
Here are the names that seem most likely:
- Apple Watch Pro: Apple uses the “Pro” branding to highlight the pro features of its Macs, iPhones and iPads, so it would make sense for it to come to the Watch.
- Apple Watch Max: Apple also uses the “Max” brand to emphasize professional specifications, and it’s also an ideal name for sports products.
- Apple Watch Extreme: Extreme would be a good name because it really reflects extreme sports and the idea of that extra power.
- Apple Watch Explorer Edition: Mark Gurman, of Bloombergsuggested that this watch would have received this name during its initial development.
When will the Apple Watch Pro be released?
The new Apple Watch will arrive this fall. Apple is expected to launch the Apple Watch Series 8 and possibly a new Apple Watch SE at the iPhone 14 launch event in September as usual.
It is true, however, that Apple has sometimes pushed back the launch of the new watch until October.
How much will the Apple Watch Pro cost?
Expect the new Watch to be priced higher than the base Apple Watch Series 8. Granted, Apple sells watches with different straps, so in the end this probably isn’t the most expensive watch and strap combo you can buy.
Series 7 starts at $479 / MXN 11,399 for the 41mm model and $509 / MXN 12,199 for the 45mm, expect the rugged model to cost more, perhaps $579 / MXN 13,399 .
However, it could be more expensive. Mark Gurman of Bloombergmade a price prediction in its July 10 newsletter based on the current price of the Apple Watch Edition (an Apple Watch Series 7 with a titanium case).
This model starts at $879 / MXN$21,399, but Gurman thinks Apple will price it even higher: “I wouldn’t be surprised if it starts closer to $900 or $999,” he wrote. .
What design will the Apple Watch Pro have?
Rumors suggest the Apple Watch Pro will have a larger face and be made of a stronger metal than aluminum.
In October 2021, Ross Young of View Supply Chain Consultantssuggested on Twitter that Apple will release three size options for the 2022 Apple Watch.
Would you like to see a bigger screen on the Apple Watch Series 8 in 2022?

In July, Young continued her predictions, in this case, to talk about her height. According to him, it would have a new screen size which could be 50mm. If so, the watch face would be 5mm larger than the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7.
The new size is larger, 1.99″.

The current watch sizes are 41mm and 45mm, which are already the largest Apple has ever made. If the third option is around 50mm, it would rival the larger Invicta and Citizen wristwatches.
If the new watch is designed for extreme sports enthusiasts, it will likely be made of a stronger metal than aluminum, with higher water resistance, greater durability and a shock-resistant screen.
Mark Gurman, of Bloombergexplained that it will have a “rugged metal casing”, although as early as March 2021 he suggested that it could be covered in a rubbery material, like Casio’s G-Shock watches.
In his newsletter on July 10, Mark Gurman suggested that it would be made of a metallic material that would not be aluminum, but “probably titanium, since it is much more durable than steel”.
What fitness features will the Apple Watch Pro have?
One of the benefits of having a larger screen, which would be 50mm (almost 2″), is that there will be 7% more screen space compared to the current larger Apple Watch.
According to Gurman, “Apple could use the larger screen real estate to display more metrics of aptitude or information on both watch faces”.
Also according to Gurman, this new Apple Watch “will improve tracking of metrics like elevation during hiking workouts and data during swimming.”
Gurman’s sources also indicate that better battery life will allow athletes to keep up with their workouts for longer.
Another new feature would be the ability to take a user’s body temperature to detect fever.
What will the Apple Watch Pro specs be?
Processor
For all intents and purposes, the S7 chip in the Apple Watch Series 7 is the same as the S6 chip. The bad news is that the chip in the Apple Watch Series 8, as well as the Apple Watch Pro, wouldn’t be any better than the S7.
According to Mark Gurman in July, “all new Apple Watches will use an S8 processor with similar performance to the S7 chip in Apple Watch Series 7, which was on par with the S6 in Apple Watch Series 6 two years ago. year”.
Drums
One of the benefits of the new, larger Apple Watch would be the ability to have a larger, longer-lasting battery as well. The current Apple Watch has an 18-hour battery life.
Additionally, it’s been released that a new Low Power Mode will be coming with watchOS 9, though it may be exclusive to new Series 8 models.
