“The next revolutionary consumer electronics product after the iPhone.” This is how Ming-Chi Kuo described the augmented and virtual reality viewer or glasses that Apple is preparing, and on which the analyst has given some additional data since his report to analysts. He even dares to give them a presentation date: January 2023
The return of Apple events in January?
There are already many such visualizers on the market, like Valve Index or Meta Quest 2. What Apple wants to do is redefine segment, as it has already done in the market for smartphones and connected watches. Release a model that makes the competition start to follow Apple’s path and lays the foundation for a type of product that becomes popular (this time for real) with consumers.
For the moment, it will be a long-term task, since the first version of these glasses will exceed 2,000 dollars depending on the source and will therefore be a niche product. For those Early adopters who want to pioneer another Apple revolution. And even so, the expected sales wouldn’t be bad for such a product: 1.5 million units throughout 2023.
Here, Kuo does not specify it any more, but January would be a very unusual month to organize a launch event for such a product. We do not have it opening speech Apple in January since 2010 (when Steve Jobs introduced the first iPad), but I guess the introduction of something as powerful as virtual and augmented reality glasses deserves it. Maybe this year we will have a Christmas full of rumors.
