Ghost of Tsushima: Blade Achievement

So what’s up with the latest major PS4 exclusive? The result is rather mixed. On the one hand, the visually solid title sprays a change of scenery on all floors and environments just waiting to be explored. It’s all further aided by a wind-guided GPS system which, while not flawless, has the advantage of keeping the player looking ahead rather than at a mini-map. But after a few hours we feel something shaky. Already at the combat level, some surprising decisions, such as the impossibility of seeing at a glance the number of ammunition of certain weapons, weigh the whole thing down. The fights in particular are a little too much the focus of Ghost of Tsushima. Almost all missions, whether side or main, involve cleaning up a camp, which the player will have ample opportunity to do while walking around. The whole thing doesn’t help the writing style, rather poor and mechanical, which still contains some flashes (especially with regard to the slow transformation of Jin, the hero). In short, we do the same thing very often and what we are told there is not exciting. A slightly bitter aftertaste ensues, which fades when the title leaves our hands free, but which returns when we retreat to a quest or another camp to clean up. The Sucker Punch game is still enjoyable to browse and complete (15 straight hours for the main quest). But it’s not a hit. Rather a hand extended to feudal Japan, which we gladly accept.

Detroit: Become Human is the synthesis of all the knowledge that Quantic Dream has developed in its field over the past 20 years. With a soaring performance, a breathtaking pace, and most importantly, a simply bewildering array of variables that may or may not let you see entire portions of the game, Detroit delivers on its promise of letting the player create their own story. Sometimes epic, often touching and dramatic, Detroit just needs a little more writing finesse and a little more personal approach to the subject of singularity to take off fully. However, it remains an excellent experience that we recommend you to capture all the depth and nuance. A great success and a real tour de force.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Freedom at the End of the Line

Though the Dark Knight is still at the forefront of superhero video game adaptation, Insomniac’s Spider-Man already bodes well for a bright future for the franchise and, in turn, for Weaver fans. Perfectly matching the latest Sony productions, the title by the Californians caused a sensation on all levels. Beautiful, playable, exciting, surprising, even moving, Spider-Man turns out to be the game all fans have been waiting for. Starting from a formula that one would have thought eroded, the developers have in fact designed a balanced game that is fun and gives an immense sense of freedom and power. It’s clear that biting the Big Apple has never been tastier, and if some glitches are indeed visible, we’re already looking forward to the new picking, which must be even tastier. We put our trust in Insomniac, who seems to have understood everything about the character, having grasped all of her essence, as was the case with Rocksteady and a certain Batman a few years ago.

Horizon Forbidden West is a version collector

Building on an already very good first episode, Horizon Forbidden West hits the stars and becomes a true pinnacle for Guerrilla Games’ studio formula, but also for the “classic” open-world genre in general. Intriguing from beginning to end, with a universe rich in artistic direction, better written and directed, and more engaging from a combat and exploration point of view, the title is almost impeccable in everything it undertakes, showing attention to detail in every moment. Furthermore, Horizon Forbidden West even has the luxury of being excellent on both PS5, PS4 Pro and PS4 Fat thanks to exemplary cross-generational work. We can only regret that the conclusion was sent a little too quickly and that important innovations were missing. Not enough to spoil the wonderful adventure that awaits you in the forbidden west. A truly exceptional title.
