The American phenomenon Avatar The Last Airbender is coming back to the gaming world soon. Several games are in development. We already know two of them.
Little surprise this weekend. A new Avatar game has been made available in some countries. We immediately stop you from having nothing to do with James Cameron’s film, but with the American animated series that is still making waves fifteen years later.
A new ATLA mobile game
Aang and his gang are back. A real phenomenon in the United States, Avatar: The Last Airbender and its universe will soon be making waves again. If only because several ambitious animated films and a live action film are planned by Netflix, but also because the license will announce its big comeback in the world of video games. And it starts with Avatar: Generations, a mobile title that has been secretly launched in several select countries, namely Canada, Denmark, South Africa and Sweden.
This tactical RPG signed by Square Enix invites fans to revisit the universe of the animated series through different chapters that trace at first glance the story of Aang and his friends. In battle, the avatar can be aided by many characters, including Katara, Sokka, Toph, Suki, Zuko and of course good old Momo and Appa. Free-to-play model requires that not all will be available immediately and they must be recruited in multiple variants. This will be the case with Korra, Kyoshi or even Roku, for example. Avatar: Generations will be available in France later this year for Android and iOS. Of course, most hackers can get their hands on it via the game’s APK. In the meantime, here are two videos that give a general overview of the game:
Four Avatar The Last Airbender games in development
However, this new game will only be a first appetizer. In fact, several titles based on the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender are planned. The website Avatar News, a true license reference, had revealed at least four games in development. So there are three more in the boxes, one of which will feature Aang and his gang. The cast would be completely changed to become Highlight “with Asian and indigenous actors” who would then lend their voices to the licence’s iconic characters.
One such project would be an RPG-oriented action/adventure game that would be released on home consoles. Another would take the form of an MMORPG, while the last one is still kept secret. The source didn’t reveal the studios and publishers involved, but said Avatar Studios, in charge of animated films and series, will oversee all projects. However, Amazon just listed another game, Avatar Quest for Balance, for PS5 and PS4. No information about it has been disclosed other than that it will be published by GameMill Entertainment, which was responsible for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues. We should be sure soon as the game is scheduled for release on November 8th, 2022 according to Amazon Japan.
