The Lord of the Rings
‘The Lord of the Rings’ is a growing license and after a quiet few years after Peter Jackson’s trilogy premiered two decades ago, it’s getting a second lease of life thanks to the adaptation that Amazon will premiere on its streaming service: ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘. Therefore, we are starting to see many new products related to the JRR Tolkien license, including more video games.
The latest announcement is a Middle-earth video game from the collaboration between Private Division and Weta Workshop. Private Division is the third editorial brand of Take-Two Interactiveafter Rockstar Games and 2K, mainly dedicated to independent games developed by small and medium-sized studios.
Weta Workshop is a well-known special effects studio in the film industrywho has already worked with Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, although he has spent years dealing with the special effects of important films: “Avatar”, “Blade Runner 2049”, “Thor: Ragnarok », « Alita: Battle Angel’, ‘Dune’ or the imminent ‘The Lord of the Rings: the Rings of Power’. The studio opened a video game division in 2014.
It seems to be the Weta Workshop’s first major project, with editorial support from Take-Two. Details about the project are still scarce, including the platforms, genre, and story it will adapt. “We are thrilled to partner with Weta Workshop to publish a game set in such an extraordinary and celebrated universe.
