The creators of Gran Turismo are more interested in driving higher frame rates than pixels.

Legendary designer and head of Polyphony Digital studio Kazunori Yamauchi recently participated in an FIA event asking him about the future of cars Big tour series.

According to Yamauchi, the team is interested in future games running at frame rates above 60fps, rather than 8K resolution. According to GT Planet, Yamauchi said, "I think 4K resolution is enough when it comes to display resolution."

Although Yamauchi didn't specifically name the PlayStation 5, it can be said that, given our knowledge of console features, he referred to Sony's next-generation consoles as candidates for increased frame rates.

"Unlike the spatial resolution you are talking about, I am more interested in the progress we can make in temporal resolution," he explained.

"In terms of frames per second, it's better to increase it to 120fps or even 240fps instead of maintaining 60fps. I think that's why the experience is changing from now on."

Sony officially stated that the PS5 will support 8K. However, more realistically, 8K will put a huge burden on the hardware, and there may not be enough room to push the frame rate above 30fps. It will be interesting to see if Polyphony and other first-party studios will be allowed to focus on frame rate rather than resolution.
