PlayStation exclusive Days Gone looks set to be the next video game to hit the big screen. A film adaptation is now in the works!
The action title Days Gone, released exclusively for PS4 and later also for the PC, comes from Sony’s Bend Studio. The post-apocalyptic adventure should now also cause a sensation in another form: A film implementation is now in the works.
At least that’s what the usually well-informed entertainment magazine reports Deadline. Outlander star Sam Heughan, known for his role as Jamie Fraser, is set to star in the film. The script comes from Oscar-nominated writer Sheldon Turner.
Jennifer Klein and Sheldon Tournament will act as producers for the Days Gone film adaptation, using their production company Vendetta Productions for this purpose. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan are involved as producers for Sony PlayStation.
Like the game, the film is set to take place in the post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest. A global pandemic has turned most of humanity into zombie creatures called Freakers. The game’s story focuses on the protagonists Deacon St. John and William “Boozer” Gray. Deacon learns that his wife Sarah might have survived and goes in search of her.
Turner’s script is intended to be a “love ballad to motorcycle movies,” also reflecting the game’s ubiquitous motorcycle theme. There is no release date or start of shooting yet.
Bend Studio released Days Gone in 2019 for PS4, the PC version followed in May 2021. Despite the commercial success with over 9 million copies sold, Sony has canceled a sequel the developer studio was considering due to mixed reviews.
