Destiny 2’s Fall of the King is the second revived raid to return to the game.

Launched in the first expansion The Taken King in 2015, it will return to Destiny 2 during the opening week of Season of Plunder.

As with Vault of Glass, expect a few changes, the return of familiar drops, and possibly an unlockable Exotic. Any guesses? We have ideas…

This is when King’s Fall will be releasedand everything we know is coming.

Destiny 2 King’s Fall release time: What time will King’s Fall be available?

King’s Fall has a Friday August 26th release dateand will be available at the following address outing hours:

  • UK: 6:00 p.m. (BST)
  • Europe: 7:00 p.m. (CEST)
  • US East Coast: 1:00 p.m. (EDT)
  • US West Coast: 10:00 a.m. (PDT)

From there, you have 24 hours – until 10:00 a.m. PDT or 6:00 p.m. BST on Saturday – to complete the contest mode. Otherwise, feel free to approach the raid at your own pace, especially when it comes to a few things to prepare.

Also, know that King’s Fall is free for all players – no expansion or season pass required.

How does the Destiny 2 King’s Fall contest mode work?

As tradition dictates, every new raid in Destiny 2 has a “contest mode”, where teams compete to be the first to complete the raid.

The King’s Fall contest mode works as follows:

  • Contest mode lasts for 24 hours – until 10am PDT or 6pm BST on Saturday.
  • Once you have completed King’s Fall once, a new Challenge Mode will become available, with secret Triumphs for all encounters.
  • The first team to complete all Secret Triumphs in each encounter will be the World First.

While this is primarily for the fastest teams in the world, it’s also open to everyone – and although unconfirmed, based on previous years, all teams that complete the raid within 24 hours get rewards.

To be clear, this is unconfirmed – so until then, see this as an excuse to play the raid and its secret triumphs before anyone else.

The release of season 18 is here! Before this Friday, learn more about the King’s Fall release time. Before that, haunting season continues. Familiarize yourself with our leveling guide before tackling the Duality dungeon and learn how to collect Calus Bobblehead locations, Calus Automaton locations, and find all Opulent Key chests. For The Witch Queen, find out how to get Exotics including Dead Messenger and Parasite. Late last year, we saw Bungie’s 30th anniversary, which introduced the Grasp of Avarice dungeon, weird rooms, and new Exotics including the Gjallarhorn and Forerunner.

How to prepare for King’s Fall in Destiny 2

As a return raid, it’s easier to prepare for King’s Fall than most. However, there are some things to keep in mind before venturing back into the Dreadnaught to take on Oryx:

  • Players must be at Power Level 1560 and above to reach the cap for each encounter. Although you can play at a lower level, your keeper’s attack and defense will drop significantly, making it much more difficult. That’s 20 levels below the Season 18 cap, so chances are you’re high enough already.
  • Familiarize yourself with the original King’s Fall. While there will be some changes – smoothing out the rough edges of the original and providing a new challenge – learning the ins and outs of the raid (and its platforming sections – remember the ships?) will help, especially for newcomers. We’ve got a walkthrough of King’s Fall to read, or if you prefer, watch this 4K HDR gameplay of Tundy’s original on YouTube:

Another thing to know is that Touch of Malice is back. He will almost certainly return as part of King’s Fall – but how remains to be seen.

In the original Destiny, there was a quest to find Calcified Fragments to unlock the Exotic Scout Rifle. If he returns, it could just be a final encounter, but it’s possible Bungie wants to pay homage with a similar quest that opens around the Raid. We’ll have to wait and see!
