The success of the Netflix series on The Witcher is known to have helped the current video game The Witcher 3 to soar. Now, for the first time, there are sound evaluations of the consequences of the start of series production.
We have reported on several occasions that the success of the Netflix series on The Witcher also helped the games reach new heights. The Witcher 3 set a new user record on Steam after another, but how was the game's sales figures? The American market research group NPD Group has meanwhile published a new report for December 2019 and is now underpinning the phenomenon with reliable figures.
Accordingly, sales of the physical version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt rose a whopping 554 percent in December last year compared to the December 2018 benchmark. Even if you calculate the relatively young switch implementation that only appeared in 2019 from this value, the plus is still a remarkable 63 percent on the game's long-term platforms.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released in May 2015, and such an increase years after the release is rather unusual. The Netflix series, which is actually based on the books rather than the games from CD Projekt RED, has catapulted several new fans into the franchise.
Netflix is also building on the success of the series and plans to launch the second season in 2021. Before that, there should be an animated film as a spin-off.
