For many years, gamers on the PlayStation platform have wanted Sony to release a controller focused on competitive titles, and their requests have finally been heard. After the reports that emerged in recent months, Japan took advantage of the Gamescom 2022 spotlight to announce the DualSense Edgea professional variant of the PS5 controller that comes with multiple additions and the promise of a high degree of customization depending on your needs.
Firstly, the DualSense Edge will allow you to map its buttons to your liking. In fact, you also have the option to disable them if you wish. The DualSense Edge has a new button with which it is possible to choose between saved profiles, adjust the volume of the game and chat, as well as configure a new profile. The idea is that players have access to multiple features without getting too distracted, so everything is within reach of a button.
Generally, controllers for competitive gamers integrate additional buttons to facilitate access to specific actions, and the DualSense Edge is no exception. We find two buttons on the back, and a couple more placed in an unusual place: the bottom edge. All of them can be mapped to the player’s liking; either taking the place of existing buttons, or creating combinations between them.
Of course, the DualSense Edge includes up to three interchangeable sticks (standard, high dome and low dome) and two sets for the rear entrances (half dome and lever). Now, perhaps one of the biggest novelties of the DualSense Edge compared to other options on the market is the possibility to replace the complete module of the stick (with everything and its internal components). For what purpose? Although Sony does not mention it, it surely has to do with the stormy drift. Instead of replacing the entire controller when this fault occurs, it is only necessary to change the module. Mind you, these will be sold separately.
