homeworld 3 was first announced in 2019. A lot has happened since then, least of all in the development of this game—like his weird fan-investor program, which is praised and then cancelled– but now, in August 2023, we have our first real look at the game in action.
Nearly a year to the date of our first peekDevelopers Blackbird Interactive have put together an in-depth gameplay demonstration for GamesCom, and that’s exactly what I want to see from games that are still in development.
This is real gameplay! There is a cursor and an interface on the screen. It lets us see how the game actually works plays. Sure, it might not be definitive, hands-on gameplay footage that we see in real-time from someone playing the game, but for a big show presentation it’s pretty decent.
That’s such a thing homeworld Fans are also most interested. We knew the ships looked cool, but like the game played— and how we can use tactics in space — is what I want to see, and this video delivers, highlighting things like unit formations, the use of cover, and even small callbacks to the original games like the ability, enemy units, and the stealing the resource collector’s blurred little blue lights.
Besides, the whole thing just looks really nice. Exactly what you want homeworld Game look like in modern times. Everything that made the originals such a refined visual experience is thereit’s now only at higher resolutions and with fancier effects.
homeworld 3 will be released on PC sometime next year, with publisher Gearbox giving a timeframe of “first half of 2023”.
