Gameplay that fits in to redeem itself from the awkward trailer

To make you forget the last backfired publicity stunt, Forspoken offers a long video. A new opportunity to assess the gameplay that looks very dynamic and satisfying.

The latest Forspoken trailer didn’t calm the skeptics. Far from it, even if it was parodied by the players. But in the middle of Gamescom 2022, Square Enix is reacting here with a large gameplay video.

10 minutes playing time for Forspoken

Frey Holland played by Ella Balinskais a “Dreamer, New Yorker and cat lover who is whisked away into the beautiful and dangerous world of Athia”. And thanks to a bracelet that grants her magical powers, she will be able to rid this universe of corrupt enemies. Knowing that the game deals with dark themes, perhaps the world of Athia and its monsters relate to the heroine’s experience.

In Forspoken you can visit the only place safe from threats: Cipal. A place where you can meet refugees, accept quests, or even bargain with the locals. As Frey gains mana, levels up, or harvests it from the environment, the more new spells she will unlock.

While there are many unknowns about the title and its ultimate quality, the gameplay video is appealing. Why ? The fights seem successful with good dynamics and impact in all directions. Admittedly, the graphic slap doesn’t seem to be there. We’ll see once the game is in hand because everything can change for better or for worse, but these clash snippets are pretty reassuring.

Forspoken will be released on January 24, 2023 for PS5 and PC.
