The cast and crew of the series have shown themselves to be quite optimistic in interviews beforehand, leaving little doubt about several seasons of “House of the Dragon”. No wonder: The story was created for about 4 seasons, so it’s all or nothing. The interest in the first episode would have had to be zero to justify an early cancellation.
The early extension of the series should have positive consequences, as production of season 2 can begin soon. With a little luck, the 2nd season of “House of the Dragon” could already be expected on HBO or Sky in autumn or winter 2023.
Since “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has also been renewed for a second season by Amazon Prime Video, there could be another fantasy double next year, although it might be better if the adventures from Westeros and Middle-earth would run with a little more time distance to each other.
