Cursed to Golf is a curious mix of roguelike and golf game.
cursed at golf is one of those games that has a weird mix of genres. And the study Chuhai Laboratories and the editor Thundering games they bring us a golf-based roguelike title. In a few words, we can only say that a completely satisfying experience came out of this unique indie game.
Essentially, Cursed to Golf is quite similar to most golf games arcade style you have played, only here we will not be in a normal realm, but in the authentic Purgatory. You have three clubs to change, a button to select power and distance, and you’re done. But this is not a normal golf course, because the fate of our souls is at stake here. Thus, we will start each hole with only 5 strokes. We have to use our skills, various power-ups and shortcuts to get to the hole before we run out of shots. And believe me, it won’t be easy. You have to be very precise
The controls are generally quite good.. While there are times when it seems like they don’t have that precision we’re looking for, it also makes getting through each phase a challenge. The distance and power meters work with a sliding scale that stops at the press of a button on the remote control. Although you can cancel the power, you only have one chance to reach the desired distance. If we don’t, we will have missed a vital blow.
Steps themselves are not so varied. There are different areas of the golf course that have slight variations in aesthetics and obstacles, but there are only a few types: the typical sand bunkers as well as blowers, teleporters and exploding TNT crates. Some fields are repeated more than once.
What drives things are the damn holesin which, every few hits, a kind of curse attacks us, so that only the swing left, a bouncing ball or a 1 minute timer, something that complicates our lives a bit. The path to the golf course is often divided and allows you to decide whether to take an easy route or a cursed route with a higher reward in coins, power-ups or a shop where you can spend coins to buy powers -ups. It’s up to you how much you think you need boost cards.
The other element that will keep us on our toes is the occasional boss holes. In these, you take on an opponent in a one-on-one round. For every shot you make, they also make one and the first to hit the hole wins. You will have to use all the skills you have get to the hole first
Visually, the game uses a pixel art retro style. It’s nothing revolutionary or exceptional, but it has its charm with the beautiful animations of your character. The sound section is equally satisfying and the title is fully translated into Spanish. The soundtrack accompanies the games without stridency.
Cursed to Golf is a very original roguelike and much more difficult than expectedsomething that can surely attract several fans of the genre or who prefer something different.
