A few weeks ago, Netflix launched a new series adaptation of Resident Evil with high hopes, but these were hardly fulfilled. The format has therefore already been scrapped again.
In the run-up, the trailers released for the new series adaptation of Resident Evil on Netflix raised our hopes that a new horror pearl was in store – but these were rather disappointed. There was terrible criticism of the series and at IMDb it was quite punished by the community with a rating of 3.9 out of 10 possible rating points. Netflix is already drawing consequences from this.
Accordingly, the live-action series will not get a second season from the streaming service, like the renowned entertainment magazine Deadline now reported. Although there were large-scale and long-term plans for the new TV adaptation in advance, it did not seem to attract enough viewers – regardless of the reviews – for these plans to be pursued further.
The series only premiered in July and was sometimes torn apart in the press. The adaptation was mortified by Supernatural showrunner Andrew Dabb and focused on Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick) and his teenage daughters Billie and Jade. There were two timelines, one in South Africa where the Umbrella Corporation set up new headquarters, and another a decade in the future when the world was already being overrun by zombies. Alongside Reddick, it starred Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Paola Nunez.
For the forthcoming start of Resident Evil on Netflix on July 14, there is another new trailer as an appetizer.
