Xbox Boss Phil Spencer recently spoke about the reasoning behind Activision Blizzard acquisition, citing the mobile market as a big reason for the move.
When Microsoft announced plans to acquire Activision Blizzard, the year was clearly on fire, but the reasons behind it, aside from more funding over the long term, weren’t entirely clear. But in an interview with Bloomberg, Spencer revealed that having more games on mobile devices and more games on PC seems to be the main driving force behind the acquisition.
“The biggest gaming platform on the planet is the mobile phone,” Spencer said. “There are 1.5 billion people who play games on mobile. I think, as Microsoft, it’s a shame that’s not where we have a native platform. As games, coming from consoles and PCs, we don’t have a lot of creative capacity that’s built Popular mobile game.”
Spencer went on to explain that when you’ve been in the video game space for a while, you’ll “get to know most of the creators out there.” This in turn means you’ll know what may or may not suit your own needs, at least when talking about acquisitions.
“But we really started talking, at least internally, about what Activision Blizzard would be able to do on mobile, and then Blizzard’s PC. Those two things really piqued our interest.”
Not surprising considering Microsoft’s huge interest in mobile devices diablo immortal In just eight weeks after it launched, it made a ridiculous $100 million.
In 2020, Activision has expressed interest in mobile adaptations of all of its franchises during investor conference calls, considering it has a number of very popular games such as World of Warcraft
