Gamescom opening night boasted a ton of announcements, but only a few like Moonbreaker. Published by KRAFTON, INC and developed by the creators of Subnautica, Unknown Worlds, this new turn-based tabletop tactical game is set in a sci-fi world crafted by Brandon Sanderson.

It’s Moonbreaker in all its glory and see how satisfying it looks to paint these miniatures digitally!

It does look a little different from the deep-sea survival game Subnautica, but the same energy and charm many are familiar with also finds its way into Moonbreaker. Targeted at tabletop and card game lovers, Moonbreaker aims to bring the fun of mock-up gaming into the digital space without the real-world constraints players may encounter.

As players battle in this original sci-fi world, they’ll create a roster of captains, crews, and assistants for their turn-based tactics, and they’ll also be able to express themselves freely by customizing their units. Desktop Title promises ever-evolving painting tools and an accessible, unique desktop experience.

Charlie Cleveland, co-founder and director of Unknown Worlds, shared, “Moonbreaker was born out of the natural passion that many of us have for tabletop gaming in Unknown Worlds.” They continued, “Our game goal is to reduce the interaction between tabletop games and miniatures. model-related traditional barriers, while retaining the hobbyist appeal that makes the genre so special. After several years of development, we’re excited to officially launch Moonbreaker and look forward to working with the community to improve the game while it’s in Early Access.”

Expanding on this, Mike Silbowitz, head of KRAFTON, Inc’s Americas business unit, “With Moonbreaker, we’re delivering a completely unique gaming experience that combines the depth of traditional tabletop gaming with the convenience of modern video game technology. Unknown Worlds partners have a long history of daring and innovating on the success of the Subnautica and Natural Selection series, and we hope that Moonbreaker will continue that tradition. The game’s Early Access launch is just the beginning, and we’re excited to continue the season and content updates to support it.”

Those eager to learn more about Moonbreaker will be happy to know that a talk show will be released when the game launches in Early Access, giving you a taste of its characters.

Moonbreaker will hit PC and Mac devices via Steam Early Access on September 29, 2022. However, the Steam playtest will take place before that. No further details yet, but you can keep up with all Moonbreaker updates via its website.

And that wasn’t all that was revealed live at Gamescom’s opening night, either. We’re seeing Dead Island 2 finally relaunch, Borderlands is getting a sequel, and Dune is even getting its own MMORPG title.
