The Serie The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power of Amazon Prime has come to our shores in the same way that the Elves came to Middle-earth: wrapped in beauty, war and opinion division. The networks are on fire. Both connoisseurs and simple fans discuss the first two episodes.

If you belong to the group of people who have liked the series and you don’t feel the urgent need to defend it or trample on it on social networks as if your life depended on it, here is a list of video games that you can play to liven up the wait between episodes.

The Lord of the Rings franchise

There are more games The Lord of the rings that I wanted to know before writing this guide. I have selected the six best known and focused on action. If the titles on this list don’t appeal to you, I recommend doing a Google search.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is the first of two installments starring Talion, an explorer of Gondor who watches his family die at the hands of the enemy and is later killed by the Black Hand of Sauron. the mythical elf Celebrimbor, creator of the Rings of Power, resurrects him and shares his vital essence. They both seek revenge.

Its most prominent section is the Nemesis System:

a classification system that allows us to know the hierarchy within the forces of the Dark Lord, offering a wide variety of information; from the rank or personal power of the individual to the strengths and weaknesses of him.

Each enemy has its own personality, which will allow you to move up or down the hierarchy throughout the game. Talion affects them with his actions, causing each to react differently.

Also, if you fail an attack against one of the targets, it will learn from your actions. If you attacked him in stealth, he will put measures to make it difficult for you to stealth.

The game was developed by Monolith Productions with the Lith Tech engine and distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. You can play it on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It does not have a next-gen version.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Middle-earth: Shadow of War (2017) is the sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Developed by Monolith Productions and distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It does not have a next-gen version. Like its predecessor, it is an open-world third-person action RPG.

You put yourself back in the shoes of Talion and Celebrimbor. This adventure focuses on the revenge of Celebrimbor, who seeks to destroy Sauron himself while Middle-earth continues to suffer war and devastation from the enemy.

The gameplay improves with more possibilities for stealth and combat, character movement is much more fluid and moving through the world is more rewarding. The nemesis system also improves. This time you can have your own orc legion. It also has two DLCs.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

There is no other video game of The Lord of the Rings more mythical, award-winning and claimed for remastering or remake as The return of the King from EA Redwood Shores and Electronic Arts Games. It was developed for PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox and PC. If you own a physical version of this game, store it in the safest and strongest safe you can find.

On this occasion you put yourself in the shoes of characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Légolas, Gimli, Frodo and Sam, among others, to live the events of the movie The Return of the King. This is an incredible adaptation that will take you through the most spectacular battles and the most awkward moments of the Hobbits.

The Lord of the Rings: The Conquest

The Lord of the Rings: The Conquest is a video game developed by Pandemic Studios and published by Electronic Arts. It is a delivery based on the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings in its entirety and similar to Star Wars: Battlefront: allows you to play with the forces of good and evil in all the epic scenarios of the confrontation.

LEGO The Hobbit

Everything gets better with LEGO, but tell Star Wars. On this occasion, LEGO The Hobbit takes us on an adventure through The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey y The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The essential points of the story remain the same, but the game focuses on the moments of more action and introduces its characteristic touch of humor.

It was developed by Traveller’s Tales and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in 2014. It is available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and PC.

lego lord of the rings

Same formula as in LEGO The Hobbit, but this time the journey takes place during the Lord of the Rings trilogy: The Fellowship of the Ring, The two Towers y The return of the King. The story maintains the essential points, but focuses on the action moments and introduces the characteristic humor of LEGO games.

My first time in World of Warcraft was so short that I didn't even get out of Stormwind. Later, some friends showed me the wonderful world of Azeroth

The Lord of the Rings is one of the most prominent and beloved works of fantasy in history. Its setting is medieval, it has different fantastic races such as Elves, Orcs and Dwarves, and creatures such as dragons and winged serpents.

If none of the Lord of the Rings games appeals to you and you want to play something similar, you can choose any of the options that I propose below.

  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim y IV: Oblivion: If you want to live an adventure as big, epic and incredible as The Lord of the Rings, then you must choose Skyrim and Oblivion. Additionally, both games feature races, monsters, and deal with social and political issues.
  • The Elder Scrolls Online: Fancy The Elder Scrolls with friends? Then The Elden Scrolls Online should be your choice. Recently, it has received the expansion The Isle and an update that offers the entire game in Spanish.
  • Saga Dragon Age: The Dragon Age saga is another option if you are looking for epic stories and incredible combat. You can watch the trailer for Dragon Age: Inquisition below.
  • Demon’s Souls Remake: We have seen on more than one occasion how the protagonists of The Lord of the Rings face monsters and enemies outnumbered. Use great weapons and armor or magic (Ganfalf style) to eliminate your enemies.
  • Dark Souls I, II, III: The Dark Souls Trilogy is another option to make time between chapters of The Rings of Power. The narrative of Dark Souls It doesn’t have the same kind of epicness as The Lord of the Rings, but it certainly lives up to it. In addition, you will face monsters, spirits, knights and much more.
  • Elden Ring: This is my favorite proposal to recommend to you. It features a beautiful and very dangerous open world, an epic story, combat as memorable as seen in The Lord of the Rings, and the ability to choose your play style. You can be anything from a knight to a wizard like Saruman, Sauron or Gandalf.

I never imagined that Elden Ring would make me cry to the point of not wanting to move forward: my story with Malenia, Espada de Miquella

  • The Witcher 3: monsters, decisions and politics. Geralt of Rivia’s Odyssey is another perfect option to wait for the next episode of The Rings of Power. You have hundreds of hours of gameplay, it deals with political and social issues such as discrimination between races and types of alliances.
  • For Honor: Are you only interested in epic battles? Then these last two proposals are indicated. In this case, you can choose between soldiers of all ages, from medieval like knights and Vikings, to gladiators of Ancient Rome and Samurais of Eastern culture.
  • Chivalry II: Lord of the Rings-style crowd battles? Take a greatsword like Aragorn, a bow like Legolas or an ax like Gimli and destroy your enemies in assaults/defenses in medieval castles. Pure epic action and no story.

If video games fall short, you can also watch/review the trilogy of The Hobbit (An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies) and the trilogy of The Lord of the rings (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King). You can also go to the books of the franchise.

These are all my proposals for you to play while you wait for the next chapter of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. There are many more titles, so I encourage you to complete this publication with your contributions in the comments (if possible, you have played them).
