These are the reasons why the iPhone 13 mini did not have great sales figures.
There are few occasions in which we see how Apple recognizes a failure and takes a step back. Last Wednesday we were able to witness one of these occasions, when the company with the bitten apple logo presented its four new iPhone models.
The diffusion filmed at Apple Park and aired during Apple’s “Far, Farther” event revealed the arrival of an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. iPhone 14 Plus which will replace the iPhone 13 mini from 2021.
Let us remember that in the opening speech Last year, Apple released an iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Therefore, the presentation of the iPhone 14 Plus confirms what we expected months ago, the iPhone 13 mini was a commercial failure. People don’t want small smartphones anymore.
The keys to the failure of the iPhone 13 mini
The truth is that the iPhone 13 mini was not the first smartphone of this format to hit the market. We saw similar strategies years ago with the iPhone 4 or more recently with the iPhone SE.
But sales of these smartphones were exploding. The problem appeared when Apple presented its iPhone 12 mini
A year has passed and the iPhone 13 mini has arrived, its sales have only reached 3% of total sales of iPhone. Very poor figures, given that the sales figures of the iPhone 13 model have been very successful. The iPhone 13 has become the best-selling iPhone in years, hosting a 38% of Apple sales. A real madness.
In this way, Apple learned a valuable lesson. Whereas a few decades ago consumers were looking for smaller and smaller cell phones, in the 1920s – if you will allow me the expression – consumers tend to buy bigger and bigger smartphones. And we don’t know (and we won’t know) exactly where the limit is, because where the size limit for smartphones ends, that for tablets begins.
This is precisely why Apple has widened its margin in the dimensions of the screens of its new iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, with sizes between 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches.
Apple knows exactly what its consumers need, and its marketing strategies are specifically designed to match those needs with its products. This was the case with the iPhone 14 Plus and the reason why we didn’t see the birth of an iPhone 14 mini. What do you think of the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini? Do you prefer the iPhone 14 Plus?
