We have already reported in detail on the highlights of this year’s keynote in several places. These include iPhones, Apple Watches and the new 2nd generation AirPods Pro. Today we present you with a list of features, some of which are mentioned in passing and are not among the main features.
However, these functions do not need to hide, on the contrary: Even if they are mostly minor upgrades, there are definitely new and useful integrations. Unlike Apple’s keynote, we’ll start with the 14th generation iPhone.
Small adjustment screws on the iPhone 14 (Pro)
Apple’s new Pro series is more controversial and polarizing than it has been for a long time. Besides the main features like the Dynamic Island
notch on the front, a 48-megapixel camera or the always-on display, there are further improvements and aspects worth reporting.
- Action-Modus: This mode is particularly interesting for the video camera. This should enable you to take smooth video recordings as if you were holding a smartphone gimbal. Action mode is only built into the new iPhones.
- Front camera with auto focus: The selfie camera will now be equipped with an auto focus. As the name partly tells you, the subject is automatically focused.
- Four zoom options: On an iPhone 13 Pro (Max) you have three zoom options (0.5x/1x/3x). The new Pro series also offers you a double optical zoom. This should come into its own especially for portrait shots.
- accident detection: The iPhone is designed to help you when you are involved in a serious accident. In addition to the emergency call, the mobile phone contacts your emergency contacts. This function is also being used for the first time in the 14th generation of iPhones.
- Camera-Flash Adapter: The new True Tone flash in all new Apple smartphones is up to twice as bright as its predecessor. This is an adaptive flash that adapts to the focal length of the photo. The light changes its pattern and the intensity of the nine LEDs. The subject should therefore be illuminated optimally and according to the situation.
- No more SIM tray: So far, the new iPhones without a SIM tray have only appeared in the USA. This means that all people who change their phone will inevitably have to switch to an eSIM. Here in Europey you can still get the 14 series with a SIM compartment. However, it is probably only a matter of time before this change comes to us.
- Improved cinema mode: The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro now support 4k at 24 and 30 frames per second. With this mode, which was introduced with the iPhone 13 series, subjects in videos are displayed sharply, while the background appears washed out – just like in movies.
- 2000 Nits Peak: The iPhone 14 Pro (Max) is said to boast a peak brightness of 2000 NIts outdoors. The display will be of particular benefit to you in direct sunlight. For comparison: The S22 Ultra from Samsung has a peak of 1750 nits.
The Watch Ultra with the most features
This year, the Series 8 only sees minor improvements. In addition to the body temperature sensor, the new smartwatch has a new processor. With the Ultra version, there is more in the detail and the SE stands out as the optimal choice for an entry-level smartwatch from Apple.
- 86 decibel siren: The Watch Ultra can trigger a siren should you need to draw attention to yourself – such as when you are in danger. Simply hold down the action button. According to Apple, the sounds can still be heard up to 180 meters away.
- Apropos Action-Button: Unlike the other Apple Watches, the Ultra version has an additional button in addition to the digital crown that can be freely assigned.
- Night mode: At 49 millimeters, the largest smartwatch not only offers a huge display. If you turn the usual Digital Crown on the side, the display darkens and all elements are visible as a strong red.
- bracelet: Your old bracelets are compatible with all new Apple smartwatches. For the Watch Ultra, however, only the wristbands of the watches from 42 millimeters apply.
- 2000 Nits Peak: Similar to the iPhone 14 Pro, the Ultra version comes with a very bright screen.
- SE version with S8 chip: The Apple Watch SE has finally replaced the Series 3. It also gets the same powerful chip as the two more expensive models. In terms of performance, you won’t have to accept any compromises with this watch.
The AirPods Pro 2 with a new case
After three years, there are finally new AirPods Pro. In addition to the improved H2 chip, the earplugs should sound significantly better thanks to optimized drivers. The noise suppression (also called ANC or Active Noise Cancellation) is said to be twice as good as its predecessor. But the inconspicuous protective cover is also improved.
- Case with speaker: The new AirPods Pro case now includes speakers. What does a case need speakers for? On the one hand, this can be done via the

- MagSafe-Ladecase: You can power the case with a MagSafe or an Apple Watch charger. Alternatively, you can still use the Lightning connector or use a third-party Qi-certified charger.
- XS-Silikonaufsätze: For particularly small ears, Apple is now including attachments in XS format.
