Intending to leave no one behind, God of War Ragnarok will be more accessible than its predecessor. Some of the options provided for this were shown in a short video.
More and more PlayStation Studios exclusives are making sure they are accessible to as many people as possible. The Last of Us Part 1 is also a Example for people with disabilities and God of War Ragnarok will follow suit.
God of War Ragnarok is updating its accessibility options
God of War Ragnarok will be a more accessible sequel, offering around 60 accessibility options for people with disabilities. Our colleagues at Game Informer, who previously reported on the new combat system and level design with a highly anticipated new location, have looked into this aspect.
For Mila Pavlin, Lead UI Designer, it was important that everyone could complete the game while still maintaining a balance between the intensity of the title and the constructive approach to the challenges presented. So she called on a wide range of advisors and testers, including veterans and blind players, to shape this adventure around four pillars of accessibility. Vision, hearing, motor and cognitive functions.
For example, as we can see in the video, a bell can ring longer to give a player with a disability time to act and thus solve this environmental puzzle. Several actions are now available on the DualSense touchpad that may be difficult for some people to perform. This is the case with Sparta’s Rage, the quick U-turn or the Shield Bash. This tactile part of the PS5 controller can even be used to aim the camera directly on the lens.
progress still possible
Despite the plethora of accessibility options – which are very broad with a high-contrast mode, button remapping, audio and haptic cues, etc. (even the PS blog) – Mila Pavlin thinks it’s possible to go even further.
60+ accessibility options is a lot. I still think we can do better. I think we can go further. But honestly I think people will be happy to see how many more players can play the game If I could push for a feature that would allow one more player – if only one more – to play, that would be the best thing in the world; to be able to see that player and understand how he was able to connect with the community and with everyone.
God of War Ragnarok will be released on November 9, 2022 for PS5 and PS4.
