This EA post The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth has received its first gameplay trailer, showcasing the turn-based mobile game.
First announced back in May, Heroes of Middle-earth was revealed as a character-collecting RPG, but no gameplay was shown at the time, just a concept art. Now, as revealed by GameSpot Swipe, the game is finally shown in action, with the game’s art director Chris Salazar throwing in some details.
Interestingly, a new ring has been added to the universe, which, according to Salazar, “allows players to bring in the best characters for the battles that take place in that location, and pushes the boundaries of reality in a way. Narrative Classic.” Salazar also explained that the new ring makes more sense once you’re in the game.
The game will obviously feature characters like Frodo and Sam, but also throughout the timeline, without specifying who we might meet along the way.
While some gameplay was revealed, it should be noted that it doesn’t have any UI, but there are some gameplay videos online that show it in more depth as it’s currently being tested in the Philippines.
You’ll be able to create teams of custom characters that you can use in the game’s story mode or in PvP, and it sounds like pairing certain characters together will result in unique moves and rewards.
Salazar wasn’t able to provide a release window for the time being, but did say you should stay tuned as the soft-launch rollout continues in select countries.
This is obviously not the only Lord of the Rings game in the works, as there are Lord of the Rings: Gollum On the one hand, but also a new title from Wētā. Studio, the studio behind the special effects of the film’s original trilogy.
