Why is Assassin’s Creed Mirage rated ‘adults only’?

adults, Assassins, Creed, Mirage, rated

During the Ubisoft Forward presentation on September 10 we learned more details about the next installment of the popular saga of the assassins. We are very interested in seeing more of Basim’s adventure in Baghdad, but there is one detail that particularly catches our attention and that could be a serious mistake. On the Xbox Digital Store, Assassin’s Creed Mirage listed as ‘adults only’.

You can see the game with this classification following this link and in the following image.

The Xbox page indicates that Assassin's Creed Mirage is rated Adults Only for real stakes, but it could all be a mistake.

As you can see, the post suggests that this game has been rated “Adults Only 18+” by the ESRB. The reasons would be “intense violence, bloodshed, sexual themes, partial nudity, and actual gambling.”

The first of these features are not unusual within this Ubisoft saga and by themselves would not merit this classification. However, the “real bets” part is the most worrying and the one that would have earned him the dreaded ‘AO’, if this is not a mistake.

Ever since items like loot boxes appeared in video games, the ESRB has been quite “cowardly” in labeling them as gambling. If the “adults only” rating of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is real, it means that the ESRB finally changed its mind regarding this type of microtransactions or that the game includes a different monetization.

Could it be an error on the Xbox page?

While we can highly criticize the microtransactions in past Ubisoft games, this all seems pretty unlikely. An ‘adults only’ rating would mean that many stores around the world simply wouldn’t be able to sell it, and we don’t think the company wants to take that risk.

Most likely it’s all a mistake. After all, the trailer for the game in the official channel of Ubisoft Latin America appears with “pending classification”.

We have already contacted Ubisoft seeking clarification on this. We will update this note if we receive a response.
