Sometimes I miss the flashy marketing campaigns that were once so common in the tech industry; Nowadays, announcements of new mobiles play the “safe”, showing the advantages of the device in a more or less artistic way. In Japan, that’s not enough, and Google is planning something different with the Pixel 7.

In fact, it’s the return of one of the most original campaigns we’ve seen: the production of food with flavors inspired by the product. It’s done that before with the Pixel 6, and this year it’s back with four new flavors based on the new Pixel 7.
Pixel 7 fries
There are four flavors which are said to be based on the colors the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be available in Japan; so you can eat them while you see the new mobile you bought, we guess.
The white color of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro has been paired with the “Snow Cheese” flavor, which judging by the pictures looks like some kind of Brie or Camembert. For its part, the black color, also available on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, is associated with the “Obsidian Pepper” flavor, that is to say with pepper.
The dark green color (with the gold camera bar), which will be exclusive to the Pixel 7 Pro, has been paired with the “Hazel Onion” flavor, while the regular Pixel 7’s light green color is the “Salty Lemon” flavor. which seems to be it, lemon with salt.
If you’re wondering what fries have to do with the Google Pixel, this is a pun on “Chips”, which in English can refer to both french fries and mobile crisps. It refers to Google’s Tensor processor, released with the Pixel 6 and which will get a second generation with the Pixel 7. Flavors are the big new thing compared to last year’s campaign, in which the only flavor available was salty. for all colors.
The Japanese will not be able to buy this product in stores; will have to enter a lottery that will draw 2,000 boxes of these chips, so it will be a very limited edition, although we imagine it will not be one of those things that speculators buy to resell three years later for ten times their price, because they are perishable foods. At the very least, the box itself can be an interesting collectible.
It’s the kind of marketing campaign that’s simple and probably won’t have cost a lot (I’m not saying these are regular tokens straight out of the bag), but can be very effective in attracting attention. . So, Google, lets you know that in Europe we also have a long tradition of fries.
