With the introduction of the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro devices, annual updates to the lineup of smart phones Apple SUV, the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro devices.

What innovations does the new generation of iPhone present? In our guide, we list the key differences so you know whether or not it’s worth going with the Pro.

Design

Not much has changed with the standard iPhone 14, as the exterior design is almost identical to the iPhone 13. Its dimensions are almost the same, although Apple has managed to reduce the weight of the new model by 2 grams .

This means that it has dimensions of 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8mm, with a weight of 172g. The new model is also a bit thicker.

You may have thought you could use the same cases as before, but it looks like Apple has changed the placement of the buttons a bit, so you might run into trouble if you’re using a case designed for the iPhone 13 on an iPhone 14.

Alto Ancho Size lester
iPhone 14 146.7 millimeters 71.5 millimeters 7.80mm 172g
iPhone 14 Plus 160.8 millimeters 78.1mm 7.80mm 203g
iPhone 14 Pro 147.5 millimeters 71.5 millimeters 7.85mm 206g
iPhone 14 Pro Max 160.7 millimeters 77.6 millimeters 7.85mm 240g

The iPhone 14 retains the square edges of the previous two generations, with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display on the front with the notch. The panel has a ceramic coating to protect it, while the housing is constructed from aerospace-grade aluminum.

The dual-camera system on the back has the same diagonal placement as on the iPhone 13, and the glass back panel allows for wireless charging with MagSafe or Qi-compatible chargers.

Both phones have an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, which ensures that the iPhone should survive even a quick dip.

All of this means that if you’ve got your hands on an iPhone 13, you’ve already got your hands on an iPhone 14, at least in terms of aesthetics.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro

The story is similar with the iPhone 14 Pro, which again retains much of its predecessor’s design language. It’s a bit taller, narrower, thicker and heavier, but you don’t notice it.

The 14 and 14 Pro have 6.1″ and 6.7″ Super Retina XDR displays (although the Pro has additional features which we’ll cover below), a ceramic shield and an IP68 rating.

Note that the Pro’s case is made from superior surgical-grade stainless steel, as opposed to the standard model’s aluminum, which adds a little extra weight.

Filter

As we mentioned, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro both come with either 6.1″ or 6.7″ Super Retina XDR OLED displays, although the Pros models use the LTPO versions, which are more efficient in terms of consumption and control.

However, this year there are other big differences. As in the iPhone 13 models, the ProMotion technology only arrives in the Pro models, and allows a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. The standard models always operate at 60Hz.

Apple also introduced an always-on display with the iPhone 14 Pro, so you can see incoming notifications, the time, and more. widget without having to wake up the phone.

Perhaps the biggest change is the notch. On the iPhone 14 you get the standard black notch with cameras and sensors we’ve seen on iPhones for years, while the iPhone 14 Pro features the new Dynamic Island.

As the name suggests, it separates the notch from the edge of the screen and creates a pill-shaped island at the top of the screen. Apple uses a smart design so that its shape changes to accommodate various notifications, quick commands for apps, or just system messages.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro

Obviously, the island will still be visible when watching movies or other video content on the iPhone 14 Pro, but for all other instances it now becomes more of a feature than a nuisance.

In terms of brightness, the iPhone 14 hits 800 nits in typical use and 1,200 peak brightness when viewing HDR content. The Pro models top that figure, with 1,000 and 1,600 nits respectively, and can go up to 2,000 nits in bright light outdoors.

Beyond that, both models offer 2,000,000:1 contrast ratios, True Tone, Wide Color (P3), haptic feedback and a similar 460 ppi resolution.

If the 6.1″ display isn’t big enough for you, you can opt for the 6.7″ version of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This year, standard iPhone users have the same option thanks to the introduction of the iPhone 14 Plus. It’s essentially the same phone, just in a bigger size.

Processor

Although on paper it looks like the iPhone 14 has the same chip as its predecessor, the iPhone 13, that’s not entirely true. Instead, Apple opted to use the slightly tweaked version of the A15 that we saw in the iPhone 13 Pro. It has five GPU cores instead of four, delivering significantly better graphics performance.

iPhone 14 Pro models are equipped with the new A16 chip. It has a similar six-core CPU, five-core GPU, and 16-core neural engine, but is made using a 4nm manufacturing process that improves power efficiency and allows the chip to perform a bit more rapidly.

It also uses LPDDR5 memory instead of LPDDR4x, which provides up to 50% more memory bandwidth. The image signal processor and display engine are new, enabling always-on display and the new camera capabilities of the Pro models.

In terms of raw performance, the iPhone 14 Pro models can be expected to be a bit faster than the standard iPhone 14, probably by around 10%.

cameras

The camera systems have seen some decent upgrades in this year’s iPhone 14 lineup. On standard models, you’ll find a new 12 MP (f/1.5) main camera, which appears to be the same as the iPhone 13 Pro.

Apple has also introduced a new image processing pipeline it calls the “Photonics Engine”, which combines uncompressed images for the best possible composite image, especially in low light.

Cinema Mode goes from 1080p/30fps on iPhone 13 to 4K/30fps on iPhone 14, plus new Action Mode, which uses advanced stabilization techniques to keep video recordings smooth, even if you run while recording them

The front cameras of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are still 12 MP, but they have a wider aperture (f/1.9) with autofocus, to improve images. selfies and video calls.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro

The iPhone 14 Pro has all of that too, but adds a 48MP (f/1.78) primary camera, which is a major upgrade over the 12MP sensor it replaces.

Its sensor is 65% larger than that of the iPhone 13. It takes 12-megapixel images by combining four pixels into one, but can take full 48-megapixel images in ProRAW mode.

It also enables a new x2 telephoto mode, in addition to the x3 mode offered by the separate telephoto lens. The 12 MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide camera has a larger sensor that also captures more light. Macro photos and videos remain exclusive to the Pro model.

And of course, the iPhone 14 Pro also benefits from Photonic Engine image processing, 4K cinematic mode and Action mode.

The iPhone 14 has a wide variety of options for most people’s photography and video needs, but in this area, Pro really means Pro.

Battery life

Both devices offer what Apple calls “all-day battery life.” According to Apple’s specs, the iPhone 14 can handle 20 hours of video playback on a single charge, which is an hour longer than the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 Pro lasts 23 hours, also an hour longer than the Apple iPhone. iPhone 13 Pro.

The iPhone 14 Plus has a battery life of up to 26 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a battery life of up to 29 hours.

Battery life is really excellent no matter which phone you choose, but the Pro models should be a bit better thanks to the more advanced, low-power display and A16 chip.
