Square Enix today announced the sequel Octopath Traveler II at the Nintendo Direct; the role-playing game will not only appear for the switch.
In addition to the switch, Octopath Traveler II will also be released for the PlayStation 5, the PlayStation 4 and the PC (via Steam). The release date has also already been set for today’s announcement: February 24, 2023 is the day!
In the sequel you embark on a journey in the completely new world of Solistia. The game is being developed by the same team that was responsible for the first part, which has sold over three million copies worldwide.
The sequel aims to improve on the series’ signature HD 2D graphics – a mix of retro 2D characters and a beautiful 3D world. The new story, new characters and features of the game should also allow newcomers to get started in the series. You can experience your own personal adventure as you follow eight different protagonists on the journey.
Officially, new and proven gameplay features and elements include:
- Break- & Boost-System – Players must use strategy to exploit opponents’ weaknesses, “breaking” them and doing more damage. With “Boost” the skills of the travelers are increased.
- path actions – Players can interact with NPCs in the world in different ways by performing actions unique to each character. Path actions vary depending on the protagonist and whether it’s day or night.
- Brand new story and characters – Players can embark on a grand adventure in the all-new world of Solistia and experience the interwoven narratives of eight new travelers: Hikari (Warrior), Agnea (Dancer), Partitio (Trader), Osvald (Scholar), Throné (Thief) , Temenos (cleric), Ochette (hunter) and Castti (apothecary).
- day and night cycle – The cityscape and path actions available to characters change from day to night, providing more opportunities for exploration and discovery.
- latent power – A new element in combat that allows characters to unleash a powerful skill once charged.
- crossroads – Additional stories will unfold as characters journey, and their narratives will be further woven.
