Anyone who has wanted to grab The Sims 4 for a long time, but hasn’t done so for whatever reason, should probably just be patient for a few more days: the main game is to be offered free of charge in the future.
EA and Maxis announced today that The Sims 4 will be offered for free as early as next month – at least the base game, which has been available for the PC since 2014 and has been supplied with add-ons in series since then.
From October 18, 2022, the full version will be available free of charge on PC and Mac via Origin and Steam as well as on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles. From the date mentioned, the base game will remain permanently free of charge, as the companies confirm.
The development team, meanwhile, is focused on creating “new and meaningful experiences.” This should then lead to new packs, sets and Sims express deliveries in the foreseeable future, from which Maxis then basically wants to generate future sales.
