The past few weeks have been exciting for all of us here at Avalanche Software. We announced that Hogwarts Legacy will launch on February 10, 2023. We’ve officially opened pre-orders and revealed the different editions you can get. And we’ve set the mood with a trailer that shows you just how dark Hogwarts’ legacy can be as you explore what lurks in the shadows.
We also attended the Wizarding World Return to Hogwarts celebration to announce the much-requested ability to bring your house and wand into the game by linking your Harry Potter Fan Club and Warner Bros. accounts. Games, which will also unlock exclusive cosmetics for fans. I can’t wait to be seamlessly sorted into Slytherin in-game no questions asked, as well as getting my wand – a 14 inch soft beech wood with a unicorn hair core, if you were wondering question.
Before I get into any new announcements, I want to talk a bit about Sebastian Sallow’s Dark Legacy.
The Dark Legacy of Sebastian Sallow
Sebastian has quickly become a beloved character since he was first revealed as a classmate in the Hogwarts Legacy Statement last March. We were delighted with the reaction of this charismatic Slytherin. If you’re a Sebastian fan, you’re not alone. Almost everyone at Avalanche loves Sebastian too. Creating the Sebastian Sallow’s Dark Legacy trailer gave us the opportunity to show a darker side to Hogwarts Legacy while giving you another glimpse into the story of Seb – as we call him at the studio.
After showing Avada Kedavra in March, many of you wondered if the other Unforgivable Curses would be in the game. This trailer highlights the Cruciatus curse in an ominous decision you as a player will have to make. Will you be the one to cast Crucio (the torture spell) on your friend, or will you have Sebastian cast it on you? What circumstances brought you to this moment? Undertaking Seb’s companion questline will put you in those harrowing situations where no choice is easy.
Additionally, Sebastian’s companion questline, like Natsai’s and Poppy’s, is completely optional. Yet it explores an ever-present question about the forces of evil; are they still bad if they could save a life? When we chose the theme for this trailer, we knew we wanted it to focus on the darker elements of the game and Sebastian’s story immediately jumped to the top of the list.
Hogsmeade Haunted Shop
And we’re not done yet. Today we also get a look at the PlayStation exclusive quest, The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop. This mysterious quest is built into the base game and can be discovered by any witch or wizard playing on PlayStation.
Cassandra Mason has a shop for you in Hogsmeade, but all is not as it seems in this ramshackle establishment. What sinister secrets hide under Madame Mason’s shop and why was she so keen to sell it? It’s a mystery that Hogwarts Legacy players will uncover in the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest exclusively available on PlayStation platforms.
While I don’t want to say too much about the weird things waiting for players under the shop, completing these challenges will reward you with your very own shop where you can sell items and gear at better rates than anywhere else, and the Shopkeeper Cosmetic Set, appropriate attire for the entrepreneurial Hogwarts student.
Additionally, if you pre-order a PS4 or PS5 version of Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll get access to the Felix Felicis potion recipe. Felix Felicis is a potion of luck that reveals equipment chests on the minimap during a game day, giving you a rather lucky day on your journey as you explore Hogwarts and its surroundings. But that’s just the recipe. You’ll still need to make the most of your potions lessons and the potions stations in the Room of Requirement to brew that Liquid Luck Bottle.
By choosing one of our enhanced editions of Hogwarts Legacy, players will gain access to additional in-game cosmetics, including the only way to obtain a flying Thestral mount in-game. The Digital Deluxe Edition also offers a 72-hour early access and a cross-generational digital upgrade, allowing you to upgrade from the PS4 version to the PS5. All pre-orders for Hogwarts Legacy will receive the Onyx Hippogriff mount.
