“It’s hard to think of this favorite game, I think anyone would have a hard time choosing just one. But thinking about this, I thought that sometimes a game can become one of your favorite titles just because of the circumstances in which you played it, regardless of its quality.
In my case, I keep a special corner of Shadow of the Colossus in my heart, more because of how I played it than because of the game itself.
I was a teenager and my older brother had become independent for about a month. It was the first weekend that he invited me to his house and before catching the bus I decided to stop at a Blockbuster and rent Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2. I had already read about the game in what at that time was my only source of information about video games, the Hobby, and although I had not played Ico, its predecessor, there were friends of my brother who put it through the roof.
That weekend we played nonstop until we beat the entire game. We enjoyed the discovery together and lived an experience that I will never forget, a memory that I treasure with affection precisely now that time and circumstances have separated me much more than I would like from my brother. But no matter what happens, I will always know that together we were able to bring down colossi.”
