Take-Two scrambles to crack down on leaked GTA 6 videos and screenshots

The weekend caused a lot of trouble for Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two.Lots of Grand Theft Auto 6 Development videos and screenshots were posted online by anonymous leakers. GTA has never suffered a leak on this scale, and understandably, the material is being released everywhere.

Videos and screenshots show various gameplay, a dialogue system similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, some vehicle action, and some open worlds. What’s more, it features the rumored protagonist and appears to confirm the long-rumored Vice City setting, as confirmed by a recent Bloomberg report.

The leak was posted by a user named teapotuberhacker on the GTA forums. Since then, the thread is locked and the media is removed, although at the time of writing it can be read again.

Take-Two moved quickly to remove all content resulting from the leak from YouTube, Twitter, and any other platform that complies with copyright takedown requests. While some of these leaks may have been archived by some who saw them, the removal all but confirms that the footage is real.

However, it’s unclear how such a trove of footage, screenshots and other material was obtained. It may have more. Teapotuberhacker claims they are at the location of the GTA 5 and GTA 6 source code, as well as the beta version of the latter – which is likely the source of the leak.

They later released their email addresses, asking Rockstar employees to contact them at their corporate email address to “negotiate a deal.” Assuming what they claim to have is real, Take-Two may be dealing with a ransom situation that seems to have become more common in recent years.

The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt fell victim to a similar breach. Japanese giant Capcom has also leaked years of information, including plans for many years to come.
