The singing is a third-person psychedelic action-adventure horror game and a riveting trailer was recently unveiled. We had the opportunity talk to us
brass tokenthe developers to learn more about this horror game like no other.
What distinguishes The Chant from classic survival horror?
JV : We were able to discover the first trailer for the game. Could you explain in a few words what motivated the creation of The Chant’s new horror adventure and how it will differ from classic survival horror, including She Get Inspired, especially in terms of gameplay and storytelling?
Although we are heavily influenced by survival horror classicswe really wanted to tell an original story and create an atmosphere that was unique to us.
The game’s setting, which takes place during a spiritual retreat, and the concept of prismatic energy are probably the elements that most differentiate us from other games. This, coupled with our fascination with Giallo, Italian horror films of the 1970’s, led us to really dedicate ourselves to a more psychedelic and brighter soundtrack and color palette than one would typically find in a survival horror. When it comes to gameplay, the Mind, Health, and Spirit system creates something holistic. When it comes to self-defense, our main character differs from classic horror game protagonists by using ghost weapons and traps.

Is The Chant an open-ended or linear game?
JV : The game takes place on a remote island full of secrets. Should we expect a semi-open-ended adventure with puzzles, exploration and backtracking (like in the last few episodes of Resident Evil, for example), or will it be more of a linear shooter where you mostly have to run away and flee from dangers, which would put more pressure on the exercise players?
The structure of the game is a mixture of a story-driven adventure and interconnected areas to explore. This is because most of the island is connected, allowing players to explore and retrace it. There are two stories that take place in The Chant. The first, dedicated to the journey of Jess and the other members of the spiritual retreat, is more of a cinematic narrative. The second is the story of a 1970’s New Age cult who reveals more about the game’s lore while exploring the island. These two stories will gradually intertwine until they collide later in the game.

What platforms will we be able to play The Chant on?
JV : At the end of the trailer we can see that The Chant will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series in addition to the PC version. Was the game originally intended to be released on previous gen systems as well, or did you always want it to be exclusively available on next gen consoles to smooth development and give a glimpse into the future?
Originally we planned to develop the game on the previous generation of consoles. However, we felt it best to focus our efforts on creating the best possible experience for now. We are a team of less than 20 developers, which makes it difficult to optimize and test the game on different platforms.
