The big overhaul of Android Auto is expected. Google announced it at Google I/O in May, but so far the only way to get it is with root. A reddit user who used this mode to enable found something new: The new Spotify interface.

The Coolwalk redesign took months to prepare and when we got to test it, we saw the media player card, which is part of the system’s new multitasking, looking a bit bland. redesign fill color spotify map and with a second page so that we can adjust the music without changing the application.

Coolwalk, even better

There might be a good reason why Android Auto updates, version after version, don’t change anything: Google continues to refine the Coolwalk interface before enabling it for users. With the right tools, it is always possible to test it in advance and see what the current state is.

Android Auto does not recognize my car: how to solve all problems connecting the mobile

That’s exactly what reddit user mynamesjefffffs did, sharing the redesign of Spotify’s media view in Coolwalk’s multitasking revamp. He is a much more attractive and colorful design than the design envelope above, as you can see in the following screenshot.

The functionality is basically the same: you can see in detail what song you’re playing and control your reading without switching apps, but with a more colorful interface and also has two pages. By sliding on the map, you access a second page with shortcuts to control the music, again without changing the application.

And what’s on that second page of information? Well, the truth is that not too much. In the screenshot we can see a series of recommendations Spotify playlists, titled “For You”.

For you

The idea is to be able to adjust the music of this card which is always visible and without having to take your eyes off the mapmuch like how split-screen mode works on widescreens, but with a slightly more inspired design.

redesign still not active for users. Google told us it would arrive “in the summer”, so it’s technically late, but we hope it was worth the wait. For now, we can only wait for it to be enabled on the server side.
