Metro Exodus: Despite Shitstorm: Shooter now also a success on Steam

Exodus, Metro, Shitstorm, Shooter, Steam, success

Last year, it was perhaps THE most popular topic in the PC sector: shortly before the release, Metro Exodus disappeared on Steam in order to initially exclusively join the Epic Games Store. A year later, the shooter nonetheless mutated to absolute sales success on Steam.

A real shitstorm broke through developer 4A Games when Metro Exodus was removed from Steam shortly before its release last year and the PC version was initially offered exclusively via the Epic Games Store. A number of players even called for a boycott of the title, but the game also quickly advanced via the Epic Store to become the most successful serial branch to date.

A year later, time exclusivity is over and Metro Exodus recently appeared on Steam. There is obviously little left of the previous criticism, because the title is now experiencing its second spring on Valve's platform and is again becoming a sales success – even though the title was withdrawn there last year after a month of pre-ordering.

In this context, Lars Wingefors, CEO of the Embracer Group, emphasized: "I was happy to see how well it is doing. Around 200,000 copies have already been sold [on Steam]." This confirmation was made as part of the announcement of current business figures.

Time has apparently made players forget the former discussion, review bombing and the call for boycott. Above all in Asia, especially in China, many players are said to have reached for the PC shooter via Steam.

For 4A Games, Deep Silver and the Embracer Group, the decision has nevertheless paid off overall, because the digital revenue achieved with the shooter in the Epic Games Store is said to have been above that of PlayStation and Xbox Store, without any specific figures in this regard would have presented.
