The Witcher Prequel to Netflix, The Witcher: Blood Originset to air in December, the show’s creators shared some information about the upcoming miniseries.
Set 1,200 years before Geralt’s adventures in Rivia, the four-part series was created by Declan DeBarra and The Witcher’s producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.
Blood Origin will cover the union of celestial bodies, a disaster that traps unnatural creatures like ghouls and vampires in the story’s setting. The collision created rifts in different realms, bringing with them a force known as chaos or magic. The event also displaced many indigenous races, unable to fight against so many dangerous creatures. The show will explain how the apocalypse happened, the reasons behind it, and how the first wizards were formed.
The miniseries shows how a continent once dominated by elves and untouched by human colonization became a “prosperous society” filled with numerous kingdoms and hierarchies. This is an era of advanced magic and science and technology, and although enlightened, it also has quite a few problems due to being a hierarchical society. Residents are either “well-born or low-born,” and this form of racism and racial discrimination prevails.
“Audiences will be amazed because they will see a story that tells a story of Elven history, buried by humans after they arrived and eventually conquered the continent,” De Bara told Netflix’s Tudum. “We can tell a story about the heyday of Elf. Stories, like all great societies before they fell.”
Blood Origin will trace the history of genie collapse through the eyes of three heroes, Scian, Eile and Fjall (played by Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown and Laurence O’Fuarain, respectively). For some form of revenge, the story will also cover the perspective of their enemies.
Minnie Driver will also star in the skit as Seanchai, a shape-shifting storyteller who can travel between worlds and eras, Mirren Mack will lend their acting skills to Princess Merwyn, and Lenny Henry will play the king’s right-hand man, Chief Sageba. lol
> Unlike the Witcher series, there will be no jumping timelines, but a more linear story with certain core characters and fan favorites from later Witcher books. Viewers can also look forward to items and discoveries made in Bloodborne that will have a “critical impact” on the storyline in subsequent seasons of The Witcher.
The Witcher: Blood Origin will be available on Netflix on December 25th, and it’s a great Christmas present for Witcher fans.
