Say what you want from the multi-franchise monster Fourteen days become, but at least its developers know how to make a solid joke.
Fortnite’s newest skin references the phrase “dead game,” which is a longtime diss in online video game communities that has turned into a joke. The skin is part of a new pack of aesthetic items called the Checkered Past Pack. The pack contains several items, including a skin with black nail polish, a plaid hat, and a sleeveless black turtleneck with “Totes Wild” printed on the top in white lettering.
The phrase refers to a long-running meme used by people to dismiss a game or claim it’s no longer relevant. Basically, the phrase is used to imply that a game has dropped and is no longer played and liked by people. (A term that has been used for many moons to describe Fourteen days although there’s no real evidence to back it up.) Because it’s so commonly misapplied to games that maintain an active player base, it’s often used as a sarcastic response to gamers who might think interest in a particular game is waning.
It’s a playful way for the developers to wink back at potential haters. If you think skin is cute, you’re in luck. At the time of publication, the full package is available for purchase Fortnite’s Item Shop and is available for $3.99 or 600 V-Bucks.
