Virgil Van Dijik continues to be the best centre-back in FIFA 23, with Marquinhos and Ruben Dias taking second and third positions. The biggest change in the centre-back rankings, however, is Sergio Ramos moving up from second to 15th.

Joao Cancelo took the top spot for best left-backs and left-backs in FIFA 23. Andrew Robertson dropped to second place because of this and is followed by Milan’s Theo Hernandez who dropped from fifth to third place. Marco Acuna and Raphael Guerreiro are also back, but in lower spots on the roster compared to last year.

Other things to know about picking the best defenders in FIFA 23
It’s not just player ratings to keep in mind when selecting your back three, four or five in FIFA 23, with different factors becoming more or less important depending on the mode you’re playing and your playing style. predilection:
- For career mode, the potential is also great – Some players have higher built-in growth potential than others, and if you plan to play at least two seasons in Career mode, it will have a major impact on your team. It’s also a great way to get a bargain.

- Think about your playstyle when looking at stats – We mentioned this briefly above, but some defenders will work better in certain situations. Jérôme Boateng is much more physical than Gerard Pique, for example. Generally, with centre-backs you want to complement the physique with class – think Vidic and Ferdinand in their prime – while the attributes of full-backs will depend on whether you want them to bomb forward and cross, or remain seated and purely defend.
