The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is technically releasing again, with the Anniversary Edition available on the Nintendo Switch eShop and seemingly out of nowhere.
The number of times I’ve played Skyrim is embarrassing. Despite how many peers and friends insist Morrowind and Oblivion are the better game, Skyrim keeps me crawling back. No matter how many game-breaking bugs I get, or how many times I just forget to save at key moments and end up frustrated, I have a never-ending toxic relationship with Tamriel. I’m fine.
The last time I played this game in its entirety was on the Nintendo Switch (excluding the hours I spent tinkering with Skyrim in VR to realize I was actually supposed to be playing Blade & Sorcery). I didn’t expect much from Skyrim on Switch, and to be honest, I’d probably give up and play it again on Xbox. However, I was wrong. I played the game to full and only lost my progress twice when there was an error; it was a success if you ask me.
After that, and my relationship with Skyrim’s many mods, I feel like my relationship with Bethesda’s apparently immortal RPG is finally over. I’ve spent enough time on it and there are many other Bethesda games I should try before The Elder Scrolls VI. Of course, though, Bethesda had to – eventually – bring Skyrim’s Anniversary Edition to the Nintendo Switch. Just in time for winter, which coincidentally is my favorite time to play Skyrim.
With this bundle, currently priced at £59.99/$69.99 for the full version and £17.99/$19.99 for the upgraded version, players will get add-ons from the Skyrim Special Edition, new Creation Club content and all three of the game’s Official DLC: Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn.
You just have to say Dawnguard and I’ll hover over the buy button and prepare a cozy corner to play next month’s games. Maybe this time, I won’t be half dead by the dragon.
I don’t know why I love Skyrim as much as I do. It’s certainly not for the story, that’s for sure. I don’t know if it’s just a comfortable game at this point, or if there’s some confusion about breaking the game or throwing Lydia down the hill that interests me. Either way, I’m ready to plunge into another epic adventure.
